Online collaboration using real-time video is an essential component of many courses and disciplines on campus. Many tools are used today to support this need. The Online Video Collaboration Working Group will look at available options to consider for widespread campus adoption and make recommendations to the Interim IT Governance Committee. These recommendations will also satisfy questions concerning the future of centrally-provided Adobe Connect.

Scope/Boundaries

In-scope

  1. This is an exploratory effort. The end result will be a recommendation report on available solutions, with possible recommendations for further implementation. If the latter, the formation of a Project Working Group and Customer Steering Committee will be part of the recommendation.

  2. A cost analysis as it will inform the recommendation.

  3. Exploration should include solutions supporting various group sizes (large, medium, small, 1-to-1) and both University and non-University participants (e.g. general public or research communities).

  4. Solutions will primarily support live, real-time communication, though recording options for live events will be explored.

  5. Existing investments and the cost to move to other systems will be a scoring criteria.

Out-of-scope

  1. Meeting 100% of campus’s University Video Collaboration needs.

  2. Operational support recommendations.

  3. Implementation of recommendations to replace existing applications.

  4. Exploration excludes traditional “room systems,” which generally support point-to-point (1-1) and multipoint (M-M). Solutions which interact with such systems may be called out, however.
